Bear Cub Scout Uniform
The uniform is an important part of the Scouting program as it has been since scouting was first started. The uniform identifies the youth and adults with Cub Scouts and gives them a sense of belonging to the den, the pack, and Scouting America. Scouts should wear their uniforms to all den meetings, pack meetings, and special pack activities.
The uniform for the Bear Cub Scout is the official blue Cub Scout shirt, Bear neckerchief, and slide. The official Bear cap and blue web belt with a Cub Scout buckle are optional, as is the blue skort for girls.
Tip: Purchase a short-sleeved rather than long-sleeved shirt for your Bear scout. The short-sleeved shirts are less expensive, cooler in active play, and will not be outgrown as fast as long-sleeved. One short-sleeved shirt should last for the 2.5 to 3 years it is needed.
The uniform shown here is the Field Uniform. The Activity Uniform is a custom T-Shirt and scout pants, often called a Class B uniform even though that is not correct terminology.
Packs design their own Activity shirt. The best place for Pack t-shirts is the ClassB.com web site. ClassB.com is an official licensee of Scouting America with a solid reputation of service and quality products since 1982.
The Bear den leader wears the official Cub Scout leader uniform, Bear neckerchief, and slide.
The Uniform Inspection Sheet has insignia placement guides. There is also a Male & Female Leader Uniform Inspection Sheet. See the Insignia Guide for more information.
If you wonder where a patch goes, it is probably a 'temporary' patch. See Scouting FAQ page for help - it can be displayed on the right pocket, red vest, wall display, or shoebox.
Uniform details, price changes, and other scouting gear is found at ScoutShop.Org - and you can purchase online.

These uniforms are a significant cost for many scouting families. Some possible ways to reduce costs are:
- Have your scout earn money for the uniform or part of it.
- Purchase only minimum expected items in your pack.
- Buy used uniforms on eBay.com or local clothes store.
- Check with your pack or district about a Uniform Exchange where you can pick up or drop off uniforms.
