What are you good at? Minute
This Minute is meant for Scouts BSA.
Script:
I've got some questions for you.
What are you good at? When I ask you what you are better at than most people, what comes to mind. Is it a sport, a school subject, a musical instrument, a video game?
Take a few seconds and think about it...
(Ask a few Scouts - What are you good at?)
Did you have to work at? Even if it didn't feel like work? Let's say it is a sport that you love to play. I bet there was still work involved in getting good at it. Am I right? Musical instruments or video games take time to get good at. You have to put work into them to get really good at them. It's just the way the world works.
Now, have you ever heard the expression "You get out of it exactly what you put into it"?
It's true for most things in life. If you work hard and dedicate time and effort to improving at something, you probably will. Scouts included. If you put the minimum amount of effort or time into your Scout rank or Merit Badges, that is what I expect you will get out of it. Minimal results.
Scouts is an opportunity to try new things, learn new skills, and make new friends but it is also a chance to push yourself. To really see how far you can go. To get outside of your comfort zone and see what new things you may want to get "Good" at. Take advantage of it. Try hard and in Cub Scout fashion "Do Your Best."
Think of the thing that you are good at. Try to put that same kind of dedication and work into other things in your life and I expect you will find that you are good at those too.
What are you going to get out of Scouting? Exactly what you put into it.
