The flyer states that the North Star Council is the only council in BSA to offer the "new" Lion program. Not true. French Creek Council in Pennsylvania has had a Lion program running in many of their Packs, including mine, for the past 6 years.

Jay - there have been some other Learning for Life Lion programs in councils. French Creek and Hiawatha Seaway both have had those. I've not seen the program materials for Northern Star so I can't say if it is the same, similar, or completely different.
But, whatever the program, I hope it helps with the long-term membership health of the organization.

We have quite a bit of interest here in Manalapan, NJ and we want to start the Lion Cub program. We even have 2 parents who want to be leaders. Our Council hasn't given the official OK, so any help you can give is most welcome. Thanks! Scott

I'm in the Northern Star Council, and am the Kaposia (Awesome!) District chair for Cub Scout Recruiting. We're shooting for 100% of our Cub Packs implementing Lions where possible. It brings so many new kids into Cub Scouts and at a great age that it's hard to really argue against the strengths of the program.
I will say that some Packs, having experience with the "herding cats" nature of Tigers, are a little wary of Lions. That said the units with Lions are thriving.
My son's Pack recruits mostly at an Open House at his school. Of the 28 families who requested more information about Cub Scouts and wanted to get their kids signed up a good third were Lion candidates. We're rolling our first Den of Lions out this year.
I can get copies of our materials to interested parties if you want.

Our Council is located in Kansas, and we too have many Kindergarten boys interested in joining the Cub Scouts. Can we request to be able to do the Lion program in our Pack? Do you have any info on who to contact about this?We would love to get this going, and as a mom of 5 boys, I think that starting them in scouts at an early age, they are more likely to stay in it longer.

Roytn4318 - You need to contact your District Executive or other council contact to find out the availability of the Lion program in your area. It's just a phone call away.

I am in Northern Star Council as well, I started Cubs Scouts when my twins were in 1st grade. I truly feel my kindergartener is getting more out of his first year then my other two did thanks to the Lion Cubs and the slow pace.
I highly recomend the program!!!
I also like that in our pack every family gets one month to plan a den meeting and Grand Adventure. Great way for the rest of the family to get their feet wet too.
